Five Minute Friday:Awake

This piece is for Five Minute Friday hosted by Lisa-Jo at Gypsy Mama. The rule are simple: write without correcting or rereading for 5 minutes.

Go:

I cannot believe how awake I feel after a week of new, after two weeks of crazy new.  This journey to this mysterious place filled to the brim with more than my words can describe has kept me up thinking, dreaming, questioning, reasoning.  I should go to bed, a bed foreign to me a foreigner, but I want to connect with my  people half way across the world in the warmth and freedom of South Africa. Oh, how I miss you.

I wish I had more to write.  I think I'm not as awake as I thought I was...

Stop.

It is the end of a long week.  I am tired and off to bed.  We are going to attempt our first Japanese train ride to the Umeda which is in northern Osaka,  I think.

Much love to you
Philippa

Longing for Winter

"It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are." — E.E. Cummings  "Unbeing dead isn't being alive." — E.E. Cummings "We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit." — E.E. Cummings   I had not intended to start with anything like the above quotes, but aren't they amazing?  What I had wanted was to find a poem about winter.  In the spider-webbed, cardboard-boxed-up mind of mine I remember something and I decided it was e.e.cummings but even though the internet is oh wow! I can't find it. Or maybe it's the dust.   My husband needs all of the credit for this post.  We discuss our life continuously.  We look at the good and the bad, what we are doing right and what is going horribly wrong....

Laughter

I laughed today. I laughed more than I have in a long time. It felt so good to laugh, I felt free. I need to make the decision to laugh more. My laughing made me happy, made my husband feel loved, made my children feel secure. Such a simple thing laughter but with such healing power. I wish I had laughed more over the years and worried less about all of the millions things available for me to worry about. My husband challenged me the other day with this: in every situation ask the question how do I glorify God in this? I think my laughing today glorified God. I think it said I can laugh because I know I don't have to worry about what I can't handle and I don't have to worry about what I can. I can laugh because I know my God holds me in the palm of His hand.

Family

We have been in Japan for a month now.  It has been exciting and awe inspiring, but today more than anything I have wanted to be home.  I am typing this at our croc computer with tears streaming and my nose running.  I have felt more fragile today than all the fragile days combined.  Just before I left for work this morning I checked Facebook and found a message from my sister to please pray for her boyfriend.  He is really sick.  As I read her message I felt all my resolve come shattering down.  I am the eldest child.  I am the big sister and for so long it has been my ...I have no words.  I managed to smile through the day. But the minute I could I felt my eyes stinging.  I want to be with my sister and her daughter.  I want to go and visit her boyfriend and tell him we love him and are praying for him. I know God has led us here and I know that He will comfort better than I could. Please pray for my sister, her boy...
